Respond, Not React – Crisis Support Training

Equip your team with the skills and confidence to safely support people experiencing mental health distress or crisis.

When someone is experiencing emotional distress or a mental health crisis, the response they receive in those first moments can make a significant difference. Many support workers want to help but often feel unsure about how to respond safely, calmly, and effectively.

Respond, Not React – Crisis Support Training gives NDIS and community service professionals the practical tools to remain calm, communicate effectively, and support participants in ways that reduce escalation and promote safety

Why This Training Matters

Support workers are often the first people present when a participant is experiencing distress, suicidal thoughts, or significant emotional overwhelm.

Without the right knowledge and guidance, these situations can quickly become confusing and stressful for both the worker and the participant.

This training helps workers move away from panic-based reactions and instead respond with calm, structured approaches that prioritise safety, communication, and stabilisation.

What the Training Covers

The program focuses on practical, real-world strategies that support workers can use immediately in their day-to-day roles, including:

  • Understanding how mental health crises can present in community settings

  • How to remain calm and present during high-stress situations

  • Effective communication during emotional distress

  • Practical strategies to reduce escalation

  • Supporting stabilisation where appropriate

  • Understanding when additional supports or services may be required

  • Creating safer responses within organisations and teams

Designed for the Community Services Sector

The program can be delivered to:

Supporting Organisations as Well as Workers

In addition to supporting frontline workers, the program also helps organisations review internal procedures and policies to ensure they align with best-practice approaches to responding to mental health crises.

This helps create a consistent, safe, and supportive approach across teams and organisations.
